Northern Yemeni Prayer Requests
Please commit to pray for the Northern Yemeni Arabs, on a daily basis. Pray that they will respond to the urgings of the Holy Spirit, to know God through Jesus.
Week 1: Pray for the People
*Names have been changed for security reasons. Some of the names represent several people in the same situation.
Sunday: Pray for Sabah, who studies at the Sana’a University. Pray that she will succeed in her studies, will question what she is taught and will make a difference among the many women in her country, many of whom will not be able to get a university degree.
Monday: Pray for Mohammed who believes that Jesus is Lord, but is isolated from others who believe. He is lonely in his new Faith.
Tuesday: Pray of Miriam who has many children. She is weary. She worries about the future of her children. Will good husbands be found for her girls and will the boys find jobs?
Wednesday: Pray for Abdul who loves Jesus but has no job. He and his family are one meal away from poverty. Pray that the Lord will provide in such a way that Abdul will see God in the provision.
Thursday: Pray for Selma, a new born baby girl. Pray that she will grow up to hear about Jesus and have the freedom to openly decide to follow Him.
Friday: Pray for Ali who is addicted to qat, a mildly narcotic leaf that is grown in Yemen and the Horn of Africa. Ali plans his day around the time to chew. He wants to quit, but can’t.
Saturday: Pray of Oom Salah (Mother of Salah, the oldest son). She is in her 60’s and life is beginning to dim. Pray that she will question the religion that she has followed so closely all her life. Pray that someone will give her the answers to eternal life.
Week 2 Pray for the cities
Sunday: Sana’a…The capital city is rich in history and culture. Shem, son of Noah, was the founder, tradition states. Hundreds of mosques cover this town. Pray that one day the name of Jesus will be proclaimed from them.
Monday: Mahweet…Pray that the people in this small mountain city will hear about Jesus and respond. Pray for radio and TV programs that are picked up by many in little towns such as this one.
Tuesday: Dhamar…This provincial capital is located in the agricultural center of Yemen. As green fields are harvested each season, pray that a harvest of Believers will rise from here.
Wednesday: Hajja…Clouds sometimes blow through the windows of the houses in this picturesque city, located on several mountain peaks. Pray that the “Word” will produce “Fruit”.
Thursday: Saada…It’s a town in the far north with the atmosphere of lawlessness and tribalism. Pray that God’s love will fill the ears of these rugged individuals.
Friday: Amran…A strong, Islamic tribal leader is from this dusty and rocky town. Pray that he and is family will come to know the Truth and accept it.
Saturday: Marib…The Queen of Sheba lived here. Her ruined temples remain. Just as she sought wisdom from Solomon, pray that her descendents will seek the God who he served.
Week 3 Pray against the strongholds
Sunday: Islam has a firm grip on the Northern Yemeni Arabs. Pray that the people will ask questions and demand answers. Pray that the Lord will show himself through visions, dreams, the Word and conversations with Believers.
Monday: Poverty creeps into the lives of many. Pray that the poor will be resourceful, that they will be able to find jobs and that their needs would be met.
Tuesday: Materialism has announced itself through TV from the West. Even homes in remote villages support a satellite dish or two. Pray that the people will see the emptiness in it, even before they are tempted by materialism.
Wednesday: Traditions are good and bring security but some traditions among the northern Yemeni Arabs are evil and harmful. Pray that these will crumble as people seek new traditions in Christ.
Thursday: Qat is a narcotic leaf chewed by about 80 percent of the men and many women. This addiction has a tight grip on the economy. Pray that people’s minds will be filled with God’s Spirit and not his harmful drug.
Friday: Communication about Christ is nonexistent in many villages. Pray that people will hear the good news of Jesus, even in the remote areas.
Saturday: Fear makes great fodder for enticing young men to join terrorist groups. Pray that these boys will realize that God can cast away all their fears and will give them peace.
Week 4 Pray for the needs among the Northern Yemeni Arabs
Sunday: Infant mortality is high and until recently, half of the children born into families would die before adulthood. With the introduction of vaccinations and rural health clinics this is changing. Pray that families would bring their children to be treated and given care.
Monday: Many girls are not allowed to be educated. They are given in marriage by age 14 or 15 and must grow up quickly. Pray that this will change and that families will see the benefit for their girls to be educated and to be more mature when they face marriage and motherhood.
Tuesday: Pray for the young men who can not find jobs and who are struggling with purpose in life. Some resent the strong patriarchal society, where the father is never questioned. Pray that they will learn that God loves them and that He has a plan for them.
Wednesday: Pray for the poor, that God will meet their needs, through the obedience of those who have more. Pray that programs to help the poor with be administered in such a way that the poor are given dignity and self worth.
Thursday: Pray for the conflict between the old and the new as westernization enters this people group. Through TV and internet, the traditions and the religion are questioned. Pray that the Lord will use this in a positive way, that the good traditions will stay and that the changes that could bring Peace will be introduced.
Friday: Half of the Northern Yemeni Arabs are young people. The education they are given is substandard. Pray that teachers will be given new ways to teach, that more schools will be available and that God will be honored it this.
Saturday: Pray that the Word of God will be shower upon the Northern Yemeni Arabs. Pray that all will hear and that they will respond. Pray for those who work among them as “Lights”, that they will be faithful.
