• The population of the Northern Yemeni Arabs is about 7.4 million.
• Sanaa is the capital of Yemen and is where many of the Northern Yemeni Arabs live.
• Sanaa is 7000 feet above sea level and has lovely, mild weather all year long.
• There has been fighting between a northern group with tribal origins and the government for 6 years.
• The president of Yemen is a Northern Yemeni Arab.
• The two main tribal federations are called the Bakeel and the Hashid.
• Water shortage is a major problem due to lack of rain in the area.
• Most women wear veils over their faces, black robes and scarves when they go out of their homes.
• Many of the men wear white, floor length robes, turbans, suit coats and knives at their belts when they go out of their homes.
• Most of the men and about half of the women chew Qat, a narcotic leaf, in the afternoons, a social habit done with friends.
• According to a women’s study, 52 percent of Yemeni women are married before age 18.
